When Love Moves Quickly

Romans 16:25John 14:15

Some kinds of delay feel harmless. You mean to send the message, make the apology, open your Bible, tell the truth, forgive the person. You are not saying "no" to God—just "later." But "later" has a quiet way of hardening into disobedience.

The sermon pressed on one simple truth from Romans: "faith is the root, obedience is the fruit." In other words, real faith does not stay hidden inside you like a private opinion. It starts to move your feet. One line especially stands out: "The obedience that faith produces is always prompt." That can sound heavy at first, but it is actually freeing. God is not asking you to invent spiritual strength from scratch. He is the one "able to strengthen you according to my gospel" (Romans 16:25). The same grace that saves you also teaches you to respond.

So maybe the question for this morning is not, Am I doing everything perfectly? but, Where am I delaying the next clear act of obedience? Maybe it is a conversation you have avoided. Maybe it is a habit you keep planning to repent of "next year." Maybe it is a quiet nudge to pray, reconcile, or speak about Christ. The preacher said, "You cannot say I will do tomorrow when God commands you to do it today." That is not a call to panic; it is a call to trust. When you move toward obedience today, however small the step, you are not earning God's love. You are answering it.

And this matters because obedience is not meant to be cold compliance. Jesus said, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments" (John 14:15). Love is what makes obedience more than duty. It becomes the shape your faith takes in ordinary life.

This week, try obeying God in the first small thing the Spirit brings to mind today—without postponing it.
